Creepy Orphan

Friday 14 August 2009

It was the night before I fly off to Sri Lanka and I haven’t packed a single thing! But decided to procrastinate again and see Orphan, thanks to Tyng who got us premier tickets. I’m not too fond of horror shows but I thought what the heck. Not like I’m doing anything Friday too.

Orphan was really not what I expected it to be. It’s about a family who adopts a 9 year old girl and things just don’t seem to go right anymore. The story line’s good at the end. Had an interesting twist to it. I won’t spoil it for those who want to watch it.

It’s more of a disturbing, creepy movie than a horror show. I’m still confused about it. Not sure if I liked it or not as I went away with an uneasy feeling. Oh well, like my wife always say, a piece is good if it made an impact, be it a good or bad one. This show certainly had an impact on everyone I think. Creeepieeee…

Had a hard time finding my car in Mid V parking after that. Tu la.. rush some more.. had to go my parents house & drop of stuff some more..By the time I got back it was already 1am. And I still haven’t packed! Taxi’s coming at 3.30am. Fucked the sleep. I stayed up. Paid the price the next day.

Short + Sweet Week II

Thursday 13 August 2009

Watched Short + Sweet week 2. They had 11 10-minute plays this time but I didn’t enjoy the plays as much as I did the last week. Only few I enjoyed were the beans one that Christian was in and the play about the gay couple titled ‘Unsaid’. Junction, about bapok dilemmas and the one about the special kids were good as well. Good luck to the winner then.

Of Bentleys, Jaguars & Bubblies

Wednesday 12 August 2009

Oh the life of luxuries... Unfortunately, I don't live the life but I do get to sample that world once in a while.. It was the launch of Jaguar's supercharged 510bhp XFR & XKR. I wasn't invited but Chris kindly extended the invitation so pergi je la.. still Media ma...

I found out Adian was going as well so it was only logical to tumpang him. He's just next door after all.. It rained heavily in the evening so we decided to leave much earlier. Launch was at 7pm. Lynn, Adian's TV co-host, picked us up from office. Surprisingly, it wasn't as jam as we thought and we arrived at Pavillion KL about 6pm.

Lepak at La Bodega first then Chris ajak us to Bentley's showroom to check out the cars. Told the GM that I couldn't even afford the car if he gave me 70% disc and def can't afford the maintenance. He cheekily said that since the maintenance is an issue, all I have to do is pay cash for the RM1.7 mil car and he'll throw in the service for free - :P

Bentley's RM1.7 million Continental GT

It was time for Jaguar's launch so we headed there to check out the rides. Hannah Low & Deborah Henry were the emcees. Cars wre nice but I'm not that of a Jaguar fan. Although their designs are getting sexier, I think it still appeals to the much older crowd. It's a "I'm already there" kind of vibe.

Jaguar XFR at RM888,888

Waited for Adian & Lynn to finish their hosting then decided to move on to August Magazine's 1st anniversary party cause Jag served only dry red wine. Deep said there was 200 sponsored bottles of GH Mumm. Bubbly.. here we come!

The crew at August 1st Anniversary Party

Got quite drunk on the bubblies and when that supply finished, we started whacking the door gifts of miniature Jacob's Creek sparkling reds instead. It's a wonder how everyone got back.

Audi.. I'm in love

Sunday 9 August 2009

We were smart, booked the sexy fiery red Audi A41.8T with Wendy the night before so that will be our ride home to KL. OMG she is SOOOOO sexy!!!!! Love her colour, love her fierce look (esp if you see her coming up in your rear view mirror).

My sexy Audi A4 1.8T

Boys stealing a smoke behind the petrol station

The Germans are a stickler for details. They even have felt behind the safety buckles so you don scratch the sides of the compartment! Had a blond moment when I wanted to start her up. There’s no ignition. Just a hole where you slot in the whole key remote. I figured that out but couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to start the engine.

I gave up & called the boys over. Chris said I gotta press the brakes & the key slot at the same time & jokingly asked me if I really worked for Audi before. Hey! They didn’t have this canggih tech then ok..

Chris was doing 180 on the trunk roads and he’s a damn good driver. Felt safe even though he was overtaking the logging trucks with cows at the side :P Well, the car handles well too & you can’t feel the speed.

I drove twice. Highway & after Genting Sempah. Ben malas to drive one.. lucky for me. I love her handling and she’s responsive. I’m having separation issues now. So difficult to part with her. YS’ boys took her in a hurry when we got back to Glenmarie. Maybe YS warned them beforehand that a psycho chick might resist giving back the car :P

Sigh.. ok my baby.. you’ll be mine someday soon...

The Hunt Begins

Saturday 8 August 2009

Woke up bright but not so early for the boat trip out on the lake where we were supposed to have a picnic at Lasir Falls. Barely woofed down my breakfast before we were ushered to the boat. Ben didn’t make it – was fast asleep in his room.

It was 45 mins on the top deck of the boat. Place is quite beautiful, with a few falls there. The water was amazingly refreshing! Ahhh nothing like a cold shower on a hot day. We were provided with a picnic lunch too.

Heading towards our boat

Journey to the waterfall

Water was damn refreshing

Was quite beat after we got back cause of all the swimming and we only had an hour to recuperate before the Amazing Hunt briefing by YS Khong. YS organized a heck of a hunt for us where 7 teams of 5 had to complete several tasks to win the cash prize of RM2500. Not too bad huh?

For the 1st task, YS made us run around the whole resort looking for stuff such as ciku, starfruit, hibiscus, etc. The bloody ciku slowed us down and we found out later that most of the stuff can be found behind Suresh’s room.

2nd task was riding a bike over a ‘ravine’ which Ben sailed through just nicely. Next was kayak and Chris & Mel volunteered for that. Boys did a great job. The most tiring part was running from one place to another. Damn this resort’s big.

Our last task was to retrieve a golf ball from the swimming pool and the person who retrieved it must put it into the hole. If it doesn’t go in, you gotta find another ball from the pool. Mel managed to do it on the 3rd try.

Amazing Ride!

Friday 7 August 2009

I was supposed to be at Glenmarie Holiday Inn at 7.30am for breakfast (for DRB-HICOM’s media event to Lake Kenyir) but woke up in a panic at 8.10am when I received an sms. SHIT! I’m going to be so freakin late! Briefing starts at 8.30am. Could I make it?

Majorly rushed (thank god I packed last night) & managed to get there at 8.45am. Push off was at 9am. I needed to register with a car and luckily saw Chris Wee (Evo) & Ben Tan’s (Top Gear) name so I asked to ride with them. *phew* We apparantly appeared in NST on Sat too!

Hehe, that was a smart decision cause we got the Audi Q7!!! A big, gorgeous, luxurious 750K+ beauty. She even smells heavenly.. She’s just awesome on the road. We did over 200 with no problems at all (didn’t even realised it actually till we saw the speedometer & freaked out! Hahah) and cruising at 180 is a breeze.

She sticks to the road taking corners like a cicak to the wall – hence the cicak logo for Quattro. I’m in love... she’s easy to drive on the highway but a bit floaty on smaller roads. Maybe the fact that I couldn’t touch the floor when I stepped on the accelerator had something to do with it? I looked so tiny in the Q7. :P

The magnificient Audi Q7 - what a beauty

Chris, our driver for the first part of the journey

Stopped at Hyatt Regency Kuantan for lunch and changed the Q7 for Mel’s Chevy Captiva. Now how the hell are we supposed to compare a car a fifth of the previous masterpiece? Sigh... bye bye sweetheart, you served us well.

Changed to the Chevy Captiva after lunch

Ride to Kenyir went without a hitch. Reached earlier than expected so went for a swim. Tried the slide at the pool - hilarious! Both Chris & I nearly flew off the slide! Slide should come with a warning – slide me ONLY IF you don’t mind making a fool of yourself. Oh, and as you probably have realised by now, I’m typing this on my new toy & wi fi works just fine!

My pad for the weekend

The last time I was here 2 years ago, the mgt told me that they don serve alcohol especially on a Friday night as it was under Pas still i think? Not too sure but I remembered they said they don serve alco on Fris.

Today’s Fri and I got a bit worried. No alco??? What kind of media trip would this be?? Thank God it was all sorted out as Suresh from Asian Auto managed to talk YS into getting us a few cans of beers which turned into house pouring rum & 7up – all sponsored by Audi CEO, Stanley, of course. I’ll say it again - I miss Audi! My number is still recorded as Joleen Audi in many of the motoring boys’ phone! Those were the days...

This here proof that Terengganu is still alive & well in freedom of booze!

My New Toy!!

Thursday 6 August 2009

Had been wanting to get a netbook for ages but Asus told me to wait a while as they said they could get me a media disc of 30 – 40% for their latest products after they launched it so wait I did, since I wasn’t in a hurry.

And waited and waited and waited. What is it, 3 months??!! Everytime I asked, they said hold on, busy, this, that, etc – whatever excuse you can come up with la – not to say I was bugging them like majorly anyways. This is what they call media relations – giving empty promises & brushing people off. Hey, if you don’t want to give the freaking disc, just say so la! I’m not THAT haddup for your bloody 30% disc.

Today I decided fuck it. I’m going to get myself a new toy WITHOUT them. Asked around and was suggested to go for Lenovo, HP & Acer. Managed to persuade tech expert Glenn to follow me to Digital Mall during lunch as I’m totally hopeless when it comes to gadgets & IT.

Walked around and checked out the goodies available. Was attracted to Fujitsu’s fiery red baby but it was a bit ex. Lenovo had colours but I didn’t like the circles on the cover. Saw the Asus EeePc Seashell and liked it the best. Too bad they had the nicest design and affordable too – RM1500 – else I would NEVER have bought Asus with THAT kind of customer service.

Here’s my new toy! Isn’t she just sleek & adorably cute? Super light too - 1kg only.

Went for some culture at KLPAC later that night for Short + Sweet, 10 mini plays written and directed by Malaysia’s upcoming promising talents lasting roughly 10 minutes each. It was some sort of competition where the audience had to vote for their favourite play.

Not that I don’t support our home-grown talent but I went to a few local shows at KLPAC and just didn’t seem to have an incline towards it. I thought they were quite lame. I was quite sceptical about this but Farsha made me go so ok la.. pergi juga.

The show was surprisingly quite good! There were only 2 out of the 10 plays that were sucky. The rest were actually enjoyable with good, solid scripts and interesting issues. Do go support them. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
